Chemo Day - Week 2 Summary

Firstly, I realised opening my blogspot page that I should never have put the word "daily" in the URL, as there are often times that I do not / will not feel like updating it. My apologies for that and to those who check this blog daily.

The nurses had a hell of a time getting the IV needle in last Wednesday. That was after I'd had a hot shower and keeping my arm warm in preparation of the impending prick. Have I mentioned that I despise and detest  needles? My nurse Gabrielle, got the needle in on the second attempt but I very nearly fainted. It's a horrible feeling when your head feels like one of those Elvis car ornaments with the bobbing head. My chart has now been marked as "Administer Valium 30 minutes prior to Catheter Insertion" and I couldn't be happier!

As you would have noticed, I hadn't blogged for an entire week. The reason for this was that the chemotherapy and radiotherapy really knocked me around last week, but today I felt well enough to sit and type which is due to having the weekend to recover.

The body really started to let me know that it's not enjoying what it's going through. Swallowing has become extremely difficult with my throat being very sore and thus, no more Anzac biscuits for me. I'm now looking towards pureed meals, which I may be able to endure for one more week. I've been feeling either hot, or cold, and at times both, which is a very odd sensation. Yesterday my feet were on fire but my head was freezing then midway though the day,  they called half-time and swapped sides. Weird! Also, my taste buds and saliva have almost disappeared and the loss of these make consuming any food difficult. It's like everything tastes the same. If you were to chew on a piece of cardboard, then you'd know how I feel.

So onto Week 3 we march, one step at a time..
